Do you like reality TV shows like Big Brother and Survivor? Do you ever think that sometimes these shows go a little too far? What will the reality TV shows of the future be like? In Panem, the Annual Hunger Games are run by the government and broadcast nationally. Participation is mandatory if your name is drawn and the only way to win is to stay alive, to kill others before they kill you.
We have four copies of The Hunger Games in the media center and all four are constantly checked out. There is even a waiting list for the book. Everyone who reads the book loves it and immediately wants to know when the sequel will be available. I have even had reports of students checking out the book and bringing it home to read only to have a family member commandeer it, refusing to give it back until they have finished reading it. Yes my friends, that is how good it is. I personally was up until 2AM one night because I could not put the book down.
The Hunger Games sequel: Catching Fire, will debut in September. There are even rumors of the book being made into a movie. Check out the Scholastic website for an excerpt of the book read by author Suzanne Collins as well as a video, message board and downloads --- http://www.scholastic.com/thehungergames/
Stay tuned for The Hunger Games Book Club - coming soon to your friendly Sims Media Center.
