This summer, one of the books I read was Fire From the Rock by Sharon Draper. The book was just okay. I can't say that I couldn't put it down or that I hated for it to end. I learned a great deal about the Civil Rights Movement and the Little Rock nine and what life was like during this turbulent period. However, the characters just did not captivate me and the story line did not pull me in.
I read Summer of My German Solider by Bette Greene this summer. I chose to read it because it was on the summer reading list. I did not think I would like it, but I was WRONG! I loved it! The relationship between Patty and Anton kept me turning page after page…and shedding a few tears. I have the sequel on my “Need to Read” list.
I have heard so many wonderful things about Summer of My German Soldier. I am going to put that on my must read list. Thanks for sharing Mrs. Satterfield. I can't wait to meet your new students this week!
A book that I read this summer was The House on Mango Street. I didn't like this book at all. The only thing that I liked about the book was that the chapters were short. Every single chapter was different. One chapter never continued to another one. None of them made sense. The House on Mango Street was one of the worst books I have ever read!!
Another book I read this summer was Westing Game. This book was more interesting than The House on Mango Street. This book is about a man trying to sell out six apartments to six different people. It is a very good book for a class to read. If anybody asked me what book they should read over the summer, I would recommend Westing Game. This is a very good book.
this summer i read summer of my german solider.i started reading it i thaught it was boring.BUT it was not!this book tells about the past.I would recomend this to anyone!
This summer I read The secreat Confessions of Charoltte Doyle. I didn't think I would like it beacuse I don't really like to read history books. It took me a while to get into it, but once I did I absolutly loved it! It was like you were reading Charoltte's private diary. You knew her thoughts, feelings, and actions, This book was aweosme!
This summer I read A Day No Pigs Would Die. I only read this book because I saw it in a book store and recognized it from the list. I thought"well, I'll just read the book and get it over with."I also thought that it would be an extremly boring book about pigs.I was totally WRONGE!!!!!It was one of the BEST books I have ever read.I guess you really can't judge a book by its cover (or title).
The 2nd book I read this summer was The House On Mango Steet. My thoughts about this book are much like Anthony's, only I think I was a little more into the book than he was. This was not the worst book that I have ever read, but it is certainly not the best!
The book I read this summer was awesome!!!! It was called Mary Poppins Comes Back. This book was filled with comedy, and a whole lot of action. To me, Mary Poppins has a personality that is so cool and funny. I really enjoyed this book that I read this summer!!!!!
I also read a book that was HILARIOUS!!!!!!! It was called Baby Phat. I laughed my head off!!!! It was so funny and it had alot of action. I can read this book so many times and laugh my head off every time!!!!!!
This summer i read the house on Mango Street i agree with Anthony it was an awful book! I dont recommend reading it. At first i thought i was skiping pages because it wasnt making any sense! It wasnt a good book at all!!
I read A Day No Pigs Would Die.I really liked it because it was about a boy who's father slaughtered pigs for a living. My father also slaughters pigs but he doesn't do it for a living. I think that I could really relate to the boy in this book. Although I have never had a pig for a pet before. I also like the book because it was sad and also had some action. The thing I didn't like was that it took so long to understand the title. It was in the back of the book and it was because when his father died everyone in town went to his funeral and no one it town killed any pigs that day.
This summer i read The Outsiders. At first i thought this book was going to be boring. The Outsiders turned out to be very interesting. I really loved the book, it was the best book i have ever read! I would definitely recommend this book to someone.

I had to read a book this summer that was called A Wrinkle in Time. It was a amazing story. I have to admit I am kinda glad that we had to do the summer reading only because the book was so amazing. It was about a girl and two boys who try to save the universe and on their way at the end they find out the most powerful thing in life is that love conquers all things and that nothing defeats it.
The book I read this year was Islands of the Blue Dolphins.I liked the book.It was really cool. Her and her brother were stranded on an Island.I felt bad for the little girl who found her brother being eatin by a pack of wolfs. So she decided to kill the lead dog,but she didnt she instead trained the dog and kept it as a pet.Soon the dog died. She also trained a bird,a sea otter, and another dog.

The book I read was the outsiders and at the beggining I thought it was boring but then became really exciting to read this book has deep character depth and a deep story line in short it is my favourite
I read the Outsiders for summer reading. I like it and recomend it to anyone that likes reading. I look forward to reading the sequal.
I read A Day No Pigs Would Die. I really enjoyed it. It had great details. I had a lot of favorite parts. I wish there was a second book. I would love to read it.
Island of the Blue Dolphins...This book was the perfect book for me. The thing I liked about this book was it was all about survival. The book was about a brother and sister all alone on a deserted island. The sad thing about this book was her brother died. My favorite part of the book was when she found the dog that killed her brother and then they became friends.
This summer I read the Outsiders. I thought it was a really good book. At first I didn't think it was going to be good. I really didn't want to read it, but now it is one of my favorite books.
The Outsiders was a wonderful book. It had a ton of action in it I would totaly recomend this book to almost anyone. The Outsiders is a perfect book for people that love a edge of your seat book.
I read Their Eyes Were Watching God this summer. Carnegie library won a grant this summer that involved that book somehow so I thought I'd join the community read (informally (meaning - at home)). Well, I was really disappointed with that one. It has been a long time since I was disappointed with a book to the point I WOULDN'T finish it. I stopped at page 143 because it was just too depressing for me. It isn't so bad about the craft - how the author did the magic with the words - the craft was not really something with a WOW factor. It was the plot. The main character - Janie Mae Crawford - is supposed to be the protagonist, but I never really like her. I don't like her choices or her attitude. I think she has a lot of pretentions (vocabulary word this week). I got tired of "spending time with her" in that story so I just closed the book for good. But don't let that stop YOU! Read it if you dare. See if you feel the same!
The Spartanburg Writing Project's key note speaker this year is Katie Wood Ray, so I also started reading Study Driven so that I could really get into her presentation this Fall. She has some really good teaching strategies- especially in Section 3 when she talks about Memoir writing and the great resources that she lists for teaching that topic. I can't wait to hear her in person.
Two students accidentally posted their summer reading comments under the Twitter post and the Library closed post.
They are: tiag7 and KenyanaLS8
What I read this summer was the Hunger Games. To tell you the truth,I really did not want to read this book.It turned out to be a wonderful book. I can't wait until series two comes out.
