SMS Book Club Soars

Members of the SMS Library Book Club, read The Capture by Kathryn Lasky and held meetings during their recess period at school where they discussed the book, blogged, held trivia contests and created organizational charts about the characters and plot of the book. In the book The Capture an evil band of owls begins kidnapping innocent young owls and brainwashing them, forcing some of them to work in a “pelletorium” picking apart owl pellets and sorting their contents. After completing the book, book club members turned the library into their own “pelletorium” where they picked apart real owl pellets and investigated their contents of the fur, bones, teeth, claws and skulls of small animals. Book club member Hayley said, “Owl pellets are nasty, but it’s fun finding bones and skulls in them.” Book club members enjoyed watching the movie Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole which is based on the book they read. “The book was full of adventures and excitement. The movie was full of surprises. Both were great.” said book club member Mariana. Logan said that she enjoyed the book club, “This book club experience was really cool. We all had a lot of fun. I’d love to do it again.”
